Oxbow At Home: Everyday is Earth Day

Everyday is Earth Day

Earth day is on every April 22 but you don’t have to wait all the way until earth day to help save the planet you can do it every day!  Use the everyday is earth day challenge sheet to see how many things you can do to save the planet earth!


The 3 Rs

Reduce

Reduce: to limit or cut back the waste we already produce

Walking/ riding a bike instead of using a car
Turning off lights when not in use
Turning off water faucets when not in use

Reuse

Reuse: using items that you can use again.

Using washable water bottles.
Using re-usable shopping bags
Reuse materials for crafts

Recycle

Recycle: making new things out of old materials

Recycle soda cans
Recycle paper and cardboard
Recycle plastic

Water Pollution

Water pollution is when yucky things are in the water and this pollution can make us sick!  Not only people, but also animals.

Watch what happens when my fish friend Freddie meets water pollution.

Instructions:

Read each story card. Follow directions and pour the correlating substance in container.

Materials:

  • One container filled with clean water
  • One sponge(cut into a fish)
  • Soil/dirt
  • Raisins
  • Green dye
  • sand
  • Shredded paper

Earth Playdough

a clay version of the Earth

Need:

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup salt
  • 2 cup water
  • 4 Tbsp oil (any cooking oil)
  • Ziploc bags
  • blue and green dye

Instructions:

  1. mix 1 cup of flour and ½ cup of salt together.
  2. Mixed 1 cup of warm water, 2tbs of oil and green dye together
  3. Pour flour into bowl with water
  4. Mix
  5. Repeat process with blue dye
  6. Roll green and blue dough together to make the planet earth
  7. Play! (sprinkle some flour on play surface)
  8. Store in Ziploc bag when done
